The default video player for Macs is QuickTime Player, which has some basic functionality to trim the start/end of any almost video file. Useful for trimming dark or empty starts to class/meeting recordings, it takes just a few moments to learn! Contact software@uiwtx.edu to learn more about other video editing options and training!
1. Locate and open the video on your computer you'd like to trim > right click the file > hover over 'Open with...' > Select 'QuickTime Player'. Note* QuickTime Player is the default video play on all Macs, so if you haven't changed this you should be able to simply double-click the video to open it. |

2. Click 'Edit' > 'Trim...' in the upper left menu Note* Alternatively, you may press the keyboard shortcut: Command+T |

3. Once the Trim option has been selected, a yellow box will appear around your video's timeline. Drag the start and/or end of the video's timeline (as shown left) to your desired starting/ending point of the video and click the 'Trim' button when finished. Note* You'll only be able to adjust where the video starts and ends this guide. 4. After you've trimmed the video, confirm the changes are correct, and either select File > Save or exit the viewer. 5. Give the updated video a new name and save location and it will be saved as a separate video than the original. All done! |
