How to link/embed EchoVideo content in Canvas
Why choose EchoVideo to share content?
- Ease of use: Insert videos directly from Canvas' Rich Content Editor (RCE)
- Choose between a link or embed option, with various settings to customize your viewer's experience (see step 5)
- Analytics on viewers and viewer behavior
- Engagement features: EchoVideo players have a 'Discussions' button where viewers can asynchronously connect to each other, reference timestamps, and answer questions in a dedicated viewing space.
Step 1
Login to Cardinal Apps and click on the 'Canvas LMS' app.
Step 2
As an instructor within a course, navigate to anywhere with the Rich Content Editor (RCE). This is the area where you'll see various formatting options, Edit, View, Insert, Format, Tools, Table, etc. (pictured)
Step 3
Click on the EchoVideo button () found in the toolbar above the editing area. It's located next to the plug () icon. If you cannot see it, click on the plug () icon and choose 'View all' and find the app within.
Step 4
In the pop-up menu, choose a piece of media from your EchoVideo library that you'd like to link/embed into Canvas. If you cannot find it, use the appropriate tabs to create new media or upload existing content from your device.
To understand the functions of the pop-up, see descriptions below...
-
'Library' tab: This tab displays the content currently in your EchoVideo library, and for courses you're listed as 'Instructor'.
-
'Create New Media' tab: This tab allows you to record/create content immediately and will provide links to use the EchoVideo browser capture or the downloaded capture app.
-
'Upload Existing Media' tab: Here, you can manually upload files from your computer or another repository if they don't exist in your EchoVideo library.
-
Search bar: Tool to search and filter your EchoVideo library through keywords, course ID, or lesson name.
Step 5
Once you've selected your piece of media, use the next window to adjust the options for your embedded/linked content. By default, the various options available to you aren't turned on and you'll be embedding your content. See descriptions for each option below, and click 'Insert' when you're finished.
-
Size: Adjust the size of the embedded piece of media.
-
Start At: Designate a time point in the video that starts playing when the viewer starts the video.
-
Autoplay: Turning this on will have the video automatically start playing when someone loads the webpage.
-
Automute: Start the volume at 0% when someone starts viewing the content.
-
Link: This option turns your video embed into a link that will open in a new tab for the viewer. Turning this on remove all other available customizable options.
Step 6
Done! Your piece of media is now embedded/linked into Canvas. Viewers can take advantage of shown features such as the 'Discussions' feature (learn more here), transcript download, and the option to expand the video into a larger window.
