Overview of the Microsoft Stream video player
Stream has evolved!
Microsoft Stream is a video player built-into the Microsoft ecosystem, commonly denoted by it's pink color schema and rich-feature set. All videos upload into a user's OneDrive or shared within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem will play in the Stream video player and have the same features available. No more storing videos in a separate portal. Store, organize, and share videos with who you want and how you want.
Understanding the New Video Player
[1] Video Information area
This area tells you where your video file is stored. All videos are stored either in your OneDrive or a SharePoint site if the video was shared in Teams. Use these buttons to move the video file, copy the video to your personal OneDrive if you have permission and it's in a Team, or use the + button to start a new recording or video upload.
[2] Share Menu
Videos are now shared like any other file in Office. Use this menu to manage direct access to your content and conveniently create a link or embed code to share your video with others.

[3] Video Settings
This button allows you to toggle and edit the settings of the video. Want to add a thumbnail? Generate a transcript/captions? Cut out background audio? Turn on chapters or turn off comments? This panel will allow you to customize your video to be as elaborate as you need it to be.
The image depicts the default settings for a video, with 'Comments' and 'About video' on by default.
[4] Chapters
If you turned on 'Chapters' within the Video Settings panel, this area will allow you to create chapters for your video. These will need to be made by the the owner or people with editing access. Chapters are great for viewers to find exactly what they're looking for and jump to an exact point in a video.
To learn about chapters and creating them, refer to this guide on using manual chapters with your video
[5] Transcript and Captions
If you generated a 'Transcript with Captions' within the Video Settings panel, this area will show the video transcript. Viewers can download a copy, read along with the video and Stream will follow along and show them which part of the video a piece of text occurs, as well as having the ability to search a transcript for keywords. Additionally, viewers can view Closed Captions by toggling the CC button on the video player.
To learn more about viewing, editing, and managing video transcripts and captions, refer to this help article from Microsoft.
[6] Comments
If you turned on 'Comments' within the Video Settings panel, this area will show comments from viewers. By default, comments are turned on.
[7] Help
This is NOT a UIW help panel, but will allow you to submit a report to Microsoft for quality purposes. If you have trouble with a video, try reaching out to the owner of the video first. Contact the UIW Help Desk at helpdesk@uiwtx.edu for further support.
[8] About Section
If you turned on 'About video' in the Video Settings panel, this area will allow you view total view counts, upload date, file location, and grants the ability for all editing parties and the owner to edit the name and description of the video. This is on by default, and uses a Rich Content Editor so you have the ability to insert hyperlinks, images, and more.
This is a great place to give the viewer some context for the video, as well as any companion resources they might need for the video content.
