Embed a Microsoft Stream Video
Note: Stream only supports embed codes for logged-in users internal to UIW. You can use an embed code on web pages outside of UIW, but the embed code will require the viewer to log in and have access to the file. In addition, embedded media in third-party sites may not provide certain features (e.g., commenting, reporting issues). If you are embedding a video for a web page or expect users outside UIW to view, do not use Microsoft Stream to embed your video content.
Are you embedding a video into Canvas? The OneDrive app in Canvas allows you to embed your video into your course with a few clicks.
You can embed Microsoft Stream videos into other web spaces, though, sharing embed code requires more steps than just sharing a video file with a sharing link. The owner of the video must:
- Assign the appropriate video permissions.
- Copy and share the embed code.

Assign the Appropriate Video Permissions
Step 1
Embed codes only work for users who have permission to access the file. Before using an embed code, select the Share button on the Stream video page to open the drop-down menu, then select Manage Access.
Step 2
Only the users and groups listed in the "People" and "Groups" areas of the "Manage Access" menu will be able to view the video via the embed code. This will include users and groups with access to the team, site, or folder the file is stored in, including people who have direct access to the video file.
If you need to grant access to additional users or groups:
- Select the Grant Access icon in the upper right.
- Use the People tab if you have a few individuals you need to share with.
- Use the Groups tab if you are using an existing Microsoft group for permissions, or have a large number of individuals to share your video.
- Enter the names of individuals or groups you have access.
- Choose whether the invited parties will have editing or view-only access.
- Choose to notify people (not recommended).
- Select Grant Access.

FAQ
I would like to embed my video into Canvas. How can I do that?
If you are embedding a Stream video in Canvas, we recommend using the integrated OneDrive app in Canvas. Using the OneDrive app will link or embed your Stream video and bring a few conveniences, such as:
- Videos have no expiration date.
- Embedded content supports course copy.
- Videos are not downloadable.

To learn how to get started with the OneDrive app in Canvas, follow our complete walkthrough.
If I move my video, do I have to embed it again?
That depends. If your video file:
- Moves, but stays within the same OneDrive or SharePoint site it's located in, you do not have to embed it again.
- Moves from one OneDrive or SharePoint to another site, you do have to embed the video again.
My viewers see a "You don't have access" error. Why?
This error is caused by either the viewer not being signed in or lacking permission to access the video. Ensure you have assigned the appropriate permissions to your video file. If you are confident these permissions are correct, advise your viewers to clear their browsing history, then log in to Cardinal Apps and try viewing the video again.
