Student Guide to submitting Flip videos in Canvas
What are Flip assignments?
Flip is an online platform that allows students to create and share short video responses to questions or topics posed by their instructors. It's a fun and interactive way for students to engage in discussions and showcase their thoughts and ideas through video recordings. This guide will cover instructions on submitting a Flip assignment. If you prefer video, refer to the video walkthrough toward the bottom in the 'Video Guide' section. Unless otherwise noted by your instructor, you will need to access the Flip assignment directly through the assignment page within Canvas.
Step 1
Login to Cardinal Apps and head to Canvas LMS
Step 2
Open the course you need to submit an assignment for and head directly to the Flip assignment
It's important you head to the assignment via the assignment page in the module area or assignments tab. You do not need to access Flip assignments from outside of Canvas unless otherwise stated by your instructor.
Step 3
Click on the 'Load xxxxxx in a new window' button
If your Flip assignment is embedded on the page (example below) that's OK. Continue to step 4.
Step 4
Click the 'Record' button
If you've never used Flip in your browser before, you'll be asked to provide permissions for Flip to use your camera and microphone. Allow access to properly use the tool.
Step 5
This will open the Flip Video tool. Learn more about the kinds of tools and creative items you can add to your recordings. The two important parts of the video tool are the two video submission buttons.
-
Record button - Instantly record a video to submit to the assignment. You will have the option to stop/start at will, including the ability to restart any take you need until you get a capture you're comfortable with.
-
Upload video button - Instead of recording, upload a video file created outside of flip to use as your video submission. This is great for people that might need to stitch together takes or recordings elsewhere and upload to Flip to use as the assignment.
There are plenty of tools on the recording dashboard to use in a recording such as custom backdrops, GIFs, images, annotations, and screen recording!
Step 6
When you've completed your recording or uploaded a video file, you'll now see a 'Next' button in the bottom right. Click it to advance to the review phase.
This button will not populate unless you've recorded something or uploaded a video file for the submission
Step 7
Make any changes or additions you'd like, and when you're ready click the 'Next' button in the bottom right.
Quote or message underneath the photo. Perhaps a tip, quirk, or a middle step not explained in the step.
Step 8
Add an optional caption or link, and when you're ready click the 'Post to Topic' button in the bottom right to submit your video to the assignment!
Step 9
Make sure you get the 'Your video is posted to the topic' prompt! This will ensure your video was posted. Depending on the size of the recording or video file, the processing time might take seconds to several minutes. Be patient.
