How to share a file from OneDrive
Before you begin...
Microsoft OneDrive is the cloud storage solution at UIW. It offers near-unlimited, private storage for your files and offers a bevy of conveniences and features to your stored content. Only you can see your OneDrive content. One of the conveniences is the ability to share content with others through 'Sharing Links', which are doorways to your OneDrive content. Sharing content from OneDrive is easy and secure, with each sharing link being end-to-end encrypted, meaning only you and the recipient can view the content.
For the safest experience, please make sure you're using either Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome as your web browser.
Step 1
Login to Cardinal Apps and open OneDrive.
Step 2
Click on 'My files' on the left side of the page. This will open up the main space where your files are kept.
Step 3
Upload your files to OneDrive, if you haven't already, and locate the file/folder you'd like to share with others. Click on the file/folder, and then select the Share icon ()
You won't see the Share icon until you manually click on a file/folder.
Step 4
Click on the pencil icon () and choose one of the three options; Can edit, Can review, or Can view. Namely, these decide what level of access people who open your document will have.
- Choose 'Can edit' to allow people to make changes and edits to your documents. This is ideal for unbridled collaboration.
- Choose 'Can review' to allow people to suggest changes or edits, but not actually make edits. This is ideal for controlled collaboration and project reviews.
- Choose 'Can view' to only allow people to view the shared content without the ability to edit or suggest edits. This is ideal for most cases like sharing in Canvas, sending files, etc.
Choose your UIW email address option to complete the process, or, If prompted, login with your UIW email and password.
Step 5
Once you've made your choice of link, click the 'Copy link' button to copy the sharing link to your file/folder.
***To set more granular and unique permissions for sharing links, click on the Gear icon () and visit the FAQ below***

FAQ
What if I want to set more granular, unique permissions for my sharing link?
Some common benefits to setting unique permissions are:
- Limiting your content to UIW-only personnel
- blocking downloads
- Setting expiration dates for shared content links
- Enable passwords for shared content links
To set these kinds of permissions over the default 'Anyone can xxx' outlined in this guide, click on the Gear icon () and once the 'Link Settings' window appears, you can change the type of link and choose some more granular and unique settings associated with the link.
View explainations on the settings below, and choose 'Apply' once you're done. Copy your link and share it.
"Link settings" explanation
-
Anyone with the link - Grants access to anyone inside and outside of UIW access to your video through the sharing link.
-
People in UIW with the link - Grants access to your video to only UIW personnel through the sharing link.
-
People with existing access - Grants access to your video to people with existing access to the video
-
Specific people - Allows you to manually enter people, groups, or Teams to only allow those entered emails access to your video through the sharing link.
"Other settings" explanation
- The permissions box allows for 'Can edit' or 'Can view' options. 'Can edit' grants editing access, and 'Can view' doesn't allow recipients to edit content.
- Set the expiration date on the link. The sharing link cannot last longer than the default, which is for one year.
- Enter an optional password for the link. This is not required.
- Toggle the option to block the viewer's ability to download your video. This is only available to toggle if the permissions in [a] were set to 'Can view'.
