Adding a Co-organizer to a Microsoft Teams Meeting
Once you've sent out invitations for your meeting in MS Teams, you have the option to appoint up to 10 co-organizers to assist in overseeing the event. A co-organizer is similar to what a co-host was in Zoom. To add a co-organizer to a meeting:
- Schedule your MS Teams meeting.
- Within the body of the meeting invite, select Meeting options.
- Next to Choose co-organizers, select the down arrow or search to add co-organizers.
- You are only able to add required attendees as co-organizers.
- Select Save to save co-organizer choices.

In-Depth Walkthrough
To add co-organizers to a meeting in MS Teams, make sure the people you want to add are already required attendees in the meeting. This means, they must be directly invited to the meeting to be eligible for co-organizer privileges.
Step 1
Schedule your MS Teams meeting. Every meeting scheduled in the MS Teams app is automatically made into an online meeting. Scheduling from Outlook? Learn how to add a MS Teams link to your Outlook meeting.
Step 2
Find the meeting invite in either the MS Teams app or Outlook. Open the invite and choose Meeting options located in the footer of the body.
Step 3
Find the "Choose co-organizers" field, click the entry field next or arrow icon next to it, and select the individuals you wish to designate as co-organizers for your meeting.
You may see a notice next to the Choose co-organizer option stating "To assign a role to a participant, invite them to the meeting individually".
This is because you cannot add co-organizers that weren't directly invited to the meeting. If your intended co-organizer is not on the drop-down list or you see this notice,
- Close the meeting options window.
- Include the individuals intended to be co-organizers as required attendees.
- Save the changes and retry through meeting options.
Step 4
Don't forget to Save your meeting options before closing the window!
FAQ
What can a co-organizer do and not do?
These co-organizers will be listed alongside the main organizer in the meeting participant roster and will possess nearly all of the meeting organizer's functionalities.
Co-organizers can:
- Access and adjust meeting options.
- Manage breakout rooms.
- bypass the lobby.
- Lock the meeting.
- Change another participant's meeting role.
- End meeting for all.
Co-organizers can't:
- Manage the meeting recording, unless they started the recording.
- Remove or change the meeting organizer's permissions.
Can external users be co-organizers?
Co-organizers must be from within the same organization as the meeting organizer. External users can't be made co-organizers under normal circumstances. If an external user is, or has been a part of a MS Team space at UIW, they'll already be registered as a 'guest' and would then be able to act as a co-organizer for a meeting. For more informations about guests, contact the UIW Help Desk.
