Canvas Course Accessibility Report
The Canvas course accessibility report provides instructors a score and actionable feedback for addressing digital accessibility. This guide explains how to access and use UDOIT—currently available in your Course Menu as "Accessibility Report (New)"—to identify and resolve accessibility issues in your course content.
Step 1: Enable the Accessibility Report
The Accessibility Report is not visible to students. It is enabled by default, but if it does not appear in your Course Menu, enable it by following these steps:
- Select Settings from the Course Menu.
- Select the Navigation tab.
- Select the three-dot menu to the right of Accessibility Report (New).
- Select Enable.
- Scroll down and save your changes.

Step 2: Scan Your Course
When you open UDOIT, your UIW course(s) are usually already scanned and your accessibility scores are ready to view, so no immediate action is needed.
If a course has not been scanned yet, UDOIT will automatically begin an initial scan the first time you open the tool. This may take a few minutes to complete. After that, UDOIT scans your course once per day and only reviews new or updated content, so subsequent scans are much faster. You can also run a scan at any time by selecting Scan Now.

Step 3: Review Your Results and Start Fixing Issues
Once the scan completes, the UDOIT Home page gives you a full picture of your course's accessibility, including your overall Course Accessibility Score, a breakdown of high, medium, and low-impact issues, and several ways to dive in and start making fixes.

One of UDOIT's most useful features is the flexibility in how you can approach remediation. Whether you want to tackle the easiest fixes first, focus on a specific disability type, or work through one content area at a time, UDOIT supports a variety of workflows to match your priorities. Accessibility Report FAQ
How is the Course Accessibility Score calculated?UDOIT weights high, medium, and low-impact issues differently when calculating your overall score, so addressing higher-impact issues will have a greater effect on your score. Each impact category also carries its own Category Score. This approach helps you prioritize the fixes that matter most for your learners.
What is the difference between Errors and Suggestions?Errors are issues UDOIT has identified with high certainty as accessibility problems that need to be addressed. Suggestions are flagged items that require your judgment—you will need to review them and determine whether remediation is needed or whether the content is already accessible and can be dismissed.
What if I fixed something outside of UDOIT?For issues that cannot be resolved within UDOIT itself, you can select the Mark as Resolved checkbox to indicate that the item has been addressed elsewhere. Similarly, files that have been manually reviewed for accessibility can be marked as reviewed to keep your report accurate.
Are uploaded files like PDFs and Word documents included in the scan?Yes. The Files Summary section of the UDOIT Home page tracks uploaded documents such as PDFs and Word files separately from your course content. Note that individual image files are not included in the file scan—image accessibility is handled within the content pages where they appear.
I need help getting started with remediation.UDOIT offers several ways to approach your fixes depending on your comfort level and priorities, including sorting by easiest-to-fix items, by impact type, by disability type, or by content type. Visit the UDOIT Home Page overview for a breakdown of each approach.
