Turnitin Draft Coach - Writing Assistant
Turnitin Draft Coach is a powerful tool designed to help you improve your academic writing and research skills. Draft Coach checks your work against Turnitin's comprehensive database of websites, student papers, and academic content to check for plagiarism, proper citation, and grammar while you write. You will receive instant feedback reports as you write in Microsoft Word online. You must use the online version of Word available through Cardinal Apps as Draft Coach is not available in the desktop version of Word. To get started:
- Open MS Word Online through Cardinal apps - Draft Coach is only available online.
- Open an existing document or start composing a new one.
- Select the Turnitin tab from the Word menu, then click the Draft Coach button.
- Choose the checks you want by clicking the Details, Similarity, Citations, or Grammar options.
- Edit your work.
Draft Coach Considerations:
- You may submit the document for a Similarity report a max of 3 times in a 24-hour period.

Step 1: Access Microsoft Word Online from Cardinal Apps
Remember, Draft Coach is not available in the desktop versions of MS Word, only in Word Online.
Step 2: Open Your Paper or Create a Blank Document
All your Word files saved in OneDrive can be easily opened. However, you can also start from scratch or a template as well.
Step 3: Select the Turnitin Tab and Click the Draft Coach Button
It can take a few moments for these options to appear as your browser finishes loading the document, please be patient.
Step 4: Choose Options in the Slide Out Tray
A slide out tray will open on the right side of your screen. Choose from Details, Similarity, Citations, or Grammar for different types of feedback.
Step 5: Edit Your Work
You may re-submit for the Similarity report a max of 3 times in 24 hours, but the Citation Check and Grammar Check can be used as many times as needed. Note there are Turnitin resource links at the bottom of each report tab for more information.

Why am I limited to 3 re-submissions in Draft Coach?
You are limited to 3 re-submissions for a similarity report. The reason is to discourage excessive usage and dependance on the plagiarism detection tool. The Similarity Check limit lasts for 24 hours. You can still use the grammar check and citation check.
Will my submissions be added to the Turnitin Database?
Draft coach does not submit your work to the Turnitin database.
Can my professor see my Draft Coach reports?
Only you, the student submitting your work, is able to see the reports run with Draft Coach.
