ExamSoft Enterprise Test Bank Requirement
ExamSoft Enterprise is an assessment platform used by select health profession programs at UIW. This guide explains the difference between test bank courses and live courses as well as the processes for accurately using them in ExamSoft Enterprise.
Note: ExamSoft Legacy uses folders rather than test bank courses. Folders are not a feature in Enterprise.
Use of Test Banks: Required Process
The use of test bank courses in Enterprise is a required process. All instructors create assessment templates in a test bank course, then duplicate the assessment to a live course.
Test Bank Courses vs Live Courses
- Test bank courses serve as persistent storage and do not have student enrollments.
- Live courses have student enrollments, but you lose access to them after a term has ended.
- Naming conventions help you tell the difference: Test Bank in the name vs the name matches the official academic course name.

Types of Assessment Duplications
There are two types of assessment duplications, unlinked and linked. Unsure which option to use? Consult with your department on whether to create Unlinked or Linked duplicates during the duplication process.
Unlinked Duplicate Assessment Considerations
- Unlinked assessments make a unique, separate copy.
- This method does not support combined reporting. You can't run a single report on multiple assessments unless the assessment is made from a linked duplicate.
- You can modify the duplicate without any restrictions.
Linked Duplicate Assessment Considerations
- Linked assessments are connected copies, where the original and the duplicate are treated as one linked assessment for reporting purposes.
- When reports are generated, the data is combined as if the two assessments are one.
- The duplicate can have unique settings for posting but has the same assessment options and questions as the original.
- To link assessments in different courses, you must be a course admin for all courses you are duplicating to.
- On the Assessment Options page, select Enable Editing to convert a linked assessment to unlinked.
- Linked assessments have a menu option to see a list of linked assessments and view the combined report.
- On the Assessments page, linked assessments have a clock icon.
