Microsoft Education: Create Check-ins with Reflect
Note: This guide assumes Microsoft Education has already been set up in your course. If not, follow the setup guide to enable Reflect check-ins in Canvas.
Microsoft Reflect, available through the Microsoft Education menu in Canvas, helps instructors create meaningful check-ins to gain insights into student well-being and build a healthier learning community. Regular check-ins gather student perspectives on the learning environment, refine teaching approaches, and identify support needs. Instructors can track insights and wellbeing trends at the course level without leaving Canvas.
Enable Reflect Check-ins
Reflect is disabled by default. To enable it, open Microsoft Education from your course navigation. Then:
- Click the profile icon (top right) and select Course Settings
- Toggle Reflect on
- Select Done to save changes

Understanding the Reflect Dashboard
The Reflect dashboard provides four main features:
-
Check-ins: Set up regular check-ins for students to express how they feel about any topic, in any language. For in-person courses, host live check-ins on a big screen or share a link to collect responses.
-
Trends: View participant responses through a comprehensive dashboard to gain insights into where learners excel and identify areas needing attention.
-
Brain breaks: Access resources for much-needed pauses that help students navigate emotions and develop strategies for managing uncomfortable feelings.
-
Change age: Adjust the audience age for your course to customize recommended brain breaks and check-ins.

Gathering Student Responses
When you create a check-in, you'll receive a sharing link and check-in code. Students can respond in two ways:
-
Direct link: Students click the sharing link to participate immediately
-
Check-in code: Students open Microsoft Education menu, select Reflect, and enter the provided code on their dashboard
