How to Install a Wolfram Mathematica for Windows computers (site-based).
Before you begin...
Question
Answer
What is a "Site-based" license and how does it effect this install?
A "Site-based" license means your computer or device must be connected to a UIW network to run Mathematica. If you are not on the network, Mathematica will not open and will ask you to license it.
What if I don't want a site-based license and want to use Mathematica anywhere?
Only if you are a faculty member and want to use Mathematica off-site without the need to connect to a network, contact a Software Specialist to get a roaming license install that lets you use the product anywhere.
Is there anywhere else UIW faculty and students can access Mathematica?
Mathematica is also installed and available to use in vLlab, UIW's virtual computer lab. Here, you can access and run Mathematica from anywhere with a web browser!

Step 1
Head to this link and select the 'Mathematica for Windows' folder.
Step 2
Download the installer from the folder, then locate and open the downloaded file. It'll be titled "Mathematica_XX_X_X_WIN_EXP" with the X's being the version of Mathematica.
Step 3
Once the downloaded file is open, you'll see the WOLFRAM DOWNLOAD MANAGER.
- Leave the Destination alone, unless you'd like to install Mathematica in an alternative location. If you don't know why you'd want to do that, then leave it alone.
- Click 'Next' to proceed.
During installation, you'll have the ability to 'Pause' the install. Use this function if you need to close or leave your laptop for a period of time as the program downloads.
Additionally, if you have internet caps from your Internet Service Provider (ISP) you can select the 'Settings' tab and adjust the download speeds (See below)
Step 4
After some time, you'll see a 'Complete' status within the installer, click the 'Launch' button to continue the installation.
->
Step 5
Click Next > Next to continue the installation.
Step 6
You'll have the option to 'Install all components (recommended)' or 'Choose components to install'. If you would like to reduce the ~7GB file size and don't need parts of Mathematica, choose the latter. Else, continue with the recommended option by clicking the 'Next' > and Next again.
Step 7
Wolfram will install. This is a very large install file and might take a while to complete. Be patient and monitor the installation.
Step 8
Once complete, you'll be greeted with the 'Completing the Wolfram Mathematica Installation' pop-up. It will prompt you to restart your device now or later. It's recommended to restart now, but you can restart later.
If you chose to restart later, click on 'Finish' to complete the install.
Step 9
Find and open Wolfram Mathematica on your computer.
Note, there should be a desktop shortcut created but if that was not unchecked during installation, you can search your computer or locate it within your start menu in the bottom left of your computer.
Step 10
Upon opening Mathematica for the first time, and click on 'Other ways to activate' in the bottom left of the window.
Step 11
Click on 'Connect to a Network License Server' option.
Step 12
Enter the name 'Jabba' in the 'Server Name' field. Then, click on 'Activate' in the bottom right of the window. If you receive an error like the one below, make sure you entered the name correctly and that you're connected to a UIW network.
Step 13
View, read, and accept the terms of the Wolfram agreement and click 'OK' when you're ready to finish the entire installation.
Finished! You can now use Wolfram Mathematica on your device while connected to a UIW network. If you are not connected to a UIW network or if you disconnect from the UIW network, Mathematica will boot into the license configuration and will not work until you are connected to a UIW network.
