How to share a video in Microsoft Stream
If you have just uploaded a video or opened a video shared with you, your video will open in the Stream Web App. This player is indicated by the pink accents and has 'Stream' in the upper left next to the waffle menu.
Step 1
Click on the Share button in the upper right of the screen, and choose a sharing option you'd like.
-
Share - Open the share menu and customize a sharing link to send out.
-
Copy link - Immediately copy a sharing link to the video. By default, this link is set to 'Anyone can edit' but can be changed.
-
Copy link at current time - Immediately copy a sharing link to the video at the current time of the video. You'll first need to watch or skip the video to the desired timestamp.
-
Embed code - Grab embed code to the Stream video. Embed code required you to set permissions first, see 'How to embed a (New) Stream video' guide.
Sharing a video from OneDrive
Step 1
Login to Cardinal Apps and open OneDrive.
OneDrive can be found either in the 'Popular Apps' or the 'Microsoft 365 Apps' tab.
Step 2
Locate the video file/video folder that you'd like to share.
Your file names will differ from the example above, but videos are now depicted with the square with an internal triangle icon.
Step 3
Click on the Share icon next to the video file or folder. This can be found next to the three dots by the date field.
Your file names will differ from the example above.
Step 4
You'll now see the file sharing menu. Here, you can share your video/folder in a variety of ways based on how many people you're sharing with.
This menu will look familiar as it's the same for all files and videos, now.
Step 5
Click on the 'Anyone with the link can edit' option on the sharing menu from step 4.
Step 6
Once the 'Link Settings' window appears, you can change the type of link, and some settings associated with the link.
"Link settings" explanation
-
Anyone with the link - Grants access to anyone inside and outside of UIW access to your video through the sharing link.
-
People in UIW with the link - Grants access to your video to only UIW personnel through the sharing link.
-
People with existing access - Grants access to your video to people with existing access to the video
-
Specific people - Allows you to manually enter people, groups, or Teams to only allow those entered emails access to your video through the sharing link.
"Other settings" explanation
- The permissions box allows for 'Can edit' or 'Can view' options. 'Can edit' grants editing access, and 'Can view' doesn't allow recipients to edit content.
- Set the expiration date on the link. The sharing link cannot last longer than the default, which is for one year.
- Enter an optional password for the link. This is not required.
- Toggle the option to block the viewer's ability to download your video. This is only available to toggle if the permissions in [a] were set to 'Can view'.
Step 7
Once everything is to your liking, click 'Apply' and then 'Copy' to copy the sharing link created.
This link can be retrieved again at any time, in case this window is accidentally closed.
FAQ
I've created a sharing link to a video in the past, do I need to make another?
You don't have to, but you can. At anytime, you can retrieve an older sharing link by navigating to the Share menu and clicking on the link icon next to 'Shared with:' at the bottom of the menu (pictured below).
