Installing MAXQDA for Windows
MAXQDA is UIW's premiere qualitative data analysis software and is available to all UIW personnel. For MAXQDA to launch and work properly, you must be connected to a UIW wireless/wired network while using the program. Specifically, while using MAXQDA, your device must be:
- Hardwired to a UIW network.
- Connected to the uiw-employees WiFi.
- Connected to the uiw-students WiFi.
The uiw-guests wireless network will not work. If you cannot make it to a UIW network to use MAXQDA, it is available for use within the university's virtual computer lab, or vLab. Learn how to use MAXQDA through the virtual computer lab (vLab) To install MAXQDA for Windows:
- Connect to a UIW network.
- Download MAXQDA for Windows.
- Open the downloaded file.
- Launch the MAXQDA 24 setup.
- Click Next, then Install.
- Check the box to launch MAXQDA 24 and choose Finish.
- Accept the license terms if shown.
- Choose Connect to your institution's network license.
- Enter the license information:

- Choose Search for licenses automatically
- Choose Refresh
- Connect and use MAXQDA.

In-Depth Walkthrough
Step 1: Download MAXQDA
Download MAXQDA for Windows from the vendor's website.
Step 2: Open the Installer
Locate the downloaded file, named "MAXQDA24_Setup.msi", within your browser's download area or your Downloads folder in File Explorer.
Double-click the file to open it.
Note: If you are asked to enter an administrative username and password to install the app, see the FAQ section below.
Step 3: Run the Installer
Start the installation by choosing "Next" and then click the "Install" button.
Step 4: Finish the Installer
Please, be patient while the program installs. After a few moments, depending on the speed of your device, the install will complete. Make sure the "Start MAXQDA 24" option is checked and you can click the "Finish" button to close the installer.
Step 5: Agree to the License Policy
The first time MAXQDA 24 is opened on a device, you'll need to accept the license agreement and privacy policy. 1) Choose I accept the terms and 2) Continue to close the license page and proceed.
Step 6: License MAXQDA For Use
To use MAXQDA, you must configure the app to connect to UIW servers. This only needs to be done once and the app will remember the configuration and automatically connect each time, provided you're on a UIW network. To license MAXQDA for use at UIW, select Connect to your institution's network license.
Note: Please, do not start a free trial or purchase a license.
Step 7: Enter the License Information
Enter the network license information as follows:
- Server address: 172.16.82.218
- Port: 21990
- Click on 'Search for licenses automatically'
- Click Refresh
Step 8: Connect The License
Next, you should now see a MAXQDA2024 option appear. 1) Click on MAXQDA2024 and then 2) choose Connect to complete the installation.
Note: If you received an error, you might've entered the information in the previous step incorrectly or you aren't connected to a UIW network. You must be on a UIW Network to use MAXQDA. Please, ensure you are fulfilling these requirements and if you still have trouble, contact the UIW Help Desk.
Done. MAXQDA has now been installed on your Windows device. Steps 6-8 of this guide won't need to be completed again and MAXQDA will remember your setup and open normally as long as you're on a UIW network.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Where can I learn how to use MAXQDA?

After I open the installation file, I'm asked for an administrative username and password.
This is because you have a UIW-issued device that requires administrative privileges to install apps and services. Try the following:
- On your uiw-issued computer, open the Start menu
and look for the Company Portal
app.
- If you have the Company Portal
app: Proceed to troubleshooting step 2.

If you do not have the Company Portal
app: Contact the UIW Help Desk to complete installation.
- Open the Company Portal
app.
- Find and select MAXQDA 24.
- Click on the Install button.
- The download will take a while. Keep the computer idle until the installation is complete.
If I upgraded from MAXQDA 2022, can I use an existing project file with MAXQDA 24?

I'm getting an error when trying to launch MAXQDA
- Ensure you're entering the network license information from step 8 correctly.
- Ensure you're connected to a UIW wireless/wired network. MAXQDA will not launch or work if you are not connected to a UIW network.
I'm connected to a UIW network but it won't launch...
Make sure you are not using the uiw-guest network. MAXQDA will not launch on the uiw-guest network and you must be hardwired to internet, or connected to either the "uiw-employees" and "uiw-students" networks.
I want to use MAXQDA in vLab, but can I save the files I make from there? Or, import files I need to use with MAXQDA?
Yes. vLab supports two-way file transfer, allowing you to import and export files into the virtual space to use with applications in vLab.
