Padlet Overview
Padlet creates virtual bulletin boards where students and instructors can post text, images, videos, files, and links in one shared space. Its versatility and simplicity make it an excellent tool for interactive, engaging, and collaborative learning experiences whether teaching in-person or online. It's particularly great at supporting group discussions that the instructor can summarize for the class after.
Padlet Availability
Padlet is available to everyone in the UIW community through Cardinal Apps.
Padlet Considerations
- Supports video discussions with a built-in recorder for both posting and replying to one another.
- Instructors must enable comments to allow text or video replies.
- To make boards better suited for group work, choose the Layout option to use Sections.
- Do not turn off the Sections layout option after students have posted, as this deletes their posts.
- You can recover a deleted board within 30 days. However, deleted posts made within a board are difficult to recover.
- Choose background colors and images carefully, as many options can make the text difficult to see.
- Padlet is available as an external tool submission type for Canvas Assignments.
- Instructors are unable to view Padlet boards or student submissions within Canvas Speedgrader. Open the Padlet assignment and Canvas in different windows/tabs to grade.
- Grade passback is not currently supported, so there isn't a way for students to "submit" the assignment via Canvas and have Canvas identify the submission.
- Upon creating an assignment in Canvas, Instructors can choose to "Create a copy for each user" if they want each student to work on an individual board for their Canvas Assignment.
