Create a SoftChalk Assignment in Canvas
This guide covers the steps of creating a SoftChalk assignment in your Canvas course. Instructors are encouraged to recommend students use Mozilla Firefox or Safari for the best SoftChalk user experience. Make this recommendation in your assignment instructions.
- Navigate to Canvas course
- Click Assignments in the course navigation bar.
- Click +Assignment.
- Fill in the assignment details: Name, Description, Points, etc.
- In the submission type, select External Tool.
- Choose SoftChalk Link Selector.
- You may be prompted to sign in.
- Choose the lesson and click Select for LTI Link.
- Choose Load This Tool In A New Tab.
- Click Save & Publish your assignment.
Step 1: Access Canvas
Access Cardinal Apps& and open the Canvas LMS app. Locate the course where you can proceed to create the SoftChalk assignment.

Step 2: Access the Assignments
Open Assignments in the course navigation bar. This step works even if you have assignments hidden from students.

Step 3: Create New Assignment
Click the +Assignment button. You can also add new assignments in Modules.

Step 4: Configure Assignment and Select SoftChalk Tool
Build your assignment. This includes a descriptive name, clear instructions for students, the point value assigned, and any other relevant settings. In the Submission Type dropdown, select:

Click Find to search for the

SoftChalk Link Selector option.
You may need to sign in to your SoftChalk account during this process.

Step 5: Select Lesson Content
Locate the lesson you want to include in the assignment and click the Select for LTI Link button to proceed.

Step 6: Set Tool Display Preferences
Choose Load This Tool InA New Tab if you want the tool to open in a separate tab.

Step 7: Save and Publish Assignment
Click the Save & Publish button to finish creating the assignment.
